《History of the Pay Telephone》和《History of the Pay Telephone》的故事情节更丰富，人物性格更突出，《History of the Pay Telephone》以二女为主，情节有些无聊，不是在花园聚餐就是刺骨的绝望 。       读到《History of the Pay Telephone》时有点想放弃观看了，还好《History of the Pay Telephone》又显出了《History of the Pay Telephone》的张力和饱满度，才觉得此番坚持读下来并非白费。       书里的人物大致分为三类，一类是被封建思想荼毒的，以高老爷、周伯涛、四爸、五爸等为代表；一类是挣扎在封建思想与新思想之间的，以觉新为代表；一类是受到新思想熏陶敢于同旧势力斗争的，以觉慧，觉民，琴，淑华为代表……此外，就是那些被封建礼教害死的人了，梅、蕙、瑞珏、淑贞、枚等等。        那些封建势力的丑恶嘴脸被刻画得一览无余，抽鸦片、与丫鬟私通、包小旦、养妓女……高公馆正是这样一步一步走向了灭亡，高老爷走后，各类丑陋的事情甚至提到明面上来，长辈没带好头，觉英等一些高家幼子也有样学样，长大后必然是社会的渣滓和毒瘤。         最欢乐的时光莫过于众多兄弟姐妹一齐在花园的嬉戏打闹，唱歌喝酒，划船赏月，促膝长谈了。 几个代表人物：        觉新，他最常说的便是“你们还有未来，我是没有希望的了”，年纪轻轻便秉持着“作揖主义”事事向旧社会众人屈服，当一个老好人，自己饱受委屈最后却吃力不讨好，梅、瑞珏、蕙、淑贞……一系列人物的悲剧命运一一展现开来，他却只是屈服，最后一手葬送了自己的小家与大家，最后或许是开悟了吧，谁又知道呢。         觉民和琴，觉慧，淑华，都是敢于挑战家庭权威的人，和觉新唯唯诺诺的性格形成了鲜明对比。他们，是新时代的希望，是中国之所以能够从几千年来的吃人封建礼教中觉醒过来的中流砥柱，也是那时候热血青年的缩影。
